Frances and Ian Sykes moved to Iceland in 2010 after visiting for over 12 years. Into 2013 and the whole house is finished now, cars into the garage and we now have a Defender 110 on big tyres so we can go play in the snow! No we don’t speak Icelandic yet but we do recognize many words and can read adverts.
We have a small guest house with 2 main letting rooms both with en-suite (bathroom) facilities, both on the ground floor and wheel chair friendly. Great big showers and wet floors. One is a Double the other is a twin or our studio single. We also have, by special request a third room but without bathroom, this can be available for a family stay and used by the younger minded. We also have a hot tub available to our guests.
In may 2014 we were awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. What a boost after our first full year in 2013.
In 2014 we applied for and have been granted Bronze level for the Environmental way in which we run our Guest House. In Iceland you’d think it should be silver or gold, but in fact the questions and system do not make it easy for a place in the greenest place on earth to score well! You can’t answer questions on how we heat our hot water and heating systems, when it is already geothermal!
We can accommodate large families or separate visitors. We supply breakfast included in the price. Dinner can be provided, we arrange this with you before hand. Allergies, Diets and Dislikes can be catered for – if we know!
Bring your own booze – we don’t have a liquor licence to sell it.
Alftanes is just 10 minutes from Reykjavik and 35 from the airport at Keflavik, (by car). We are on a bus route and have Iceland’s newest and best swimming pool in the village, a 10 minute walk away. Talking of walks we have them starting by the house, round the shore and past the Presidents Official Residence (yes you walk right past it). Wild life is abundant with Swans, Geese, Gulls, and others birds, and Icelandic horses. Golf available in the village and several other courses nearby and further away – golf is big in Iceland. over 60 courses. Horse riding is 15 minutes away.
We can arrange bespoke tours for you with us (we have a Land Rover Defender 110), or we can advice on where to drive. Car Hire can be arranged with our own Freelander or other car rental firms. We have a Garmin GPS camera that you can borrow to help get the best out of Iceland. With free WiFi you can upload the images on a daily basis to your CLOUD store.
